Saylorville Oak Grove Beach is a kitesurf spot on Saylorville Lake, a Des Moines River reservoir north of Iowa's capital. This large reservoir offers good fetch and consistent winds. Oak Grove Beach features a sandy beach, parking, and amenities. Most accessible spot in the Des Moines area. Lake level varies with precipitation and dam releases. Season from May to October.
Freshwater with variable visibility (often turbid after rain). Water temperature from 0°C in winter (frozen) to 26°C in summer. Muddy to sandy bottom. Very variable lake level — can rise several meters after floods. Moderate chop in strong winds. Full 4/3 wetsuit in spring/fall, shorty in summer.

Frequent violent thunderstorms with lightning — exit water immediately. Very variable lake level: hidden shallows and submerged debris (trees, branches). Current possible near dam — respect marked restricted zone. Motorboat traffic. Turbid water hiding obstacles. Tornadoes possible in season (May-August).
