Lake Altus is a kitesurf spot on Lake Altus-Lugert, a reservoir in the Quartz Mountains of southwestern Oklahoma. This lake offers powerful south winds and a spectacular semi-arid setting with quartz and granite hills. Quartz Mountain State Park offers camping, lodging, and amenities. Less crowded than OKC spots. Season from April to November.
Freshwater with variable visibility. Water temperature from 5°C in winter to 28°C in summer. Good fetch. Rocky (quartz/granite) to muddy bottom. Moderate to strong chop in south winds. Very variable lake level — can be very low during drought. Shorty in summer, 4/3 wetsuit in spring/fall.

TORNADOES: monitor weather constantly. Violent thunderstorms April to June. Very variable lake level — dangerous rocky shallows at low water. Extreme summer heat in southwestern Oklahoma. Rattlesnakes and water moccasins. Rocky bottom (quartz/granite).
