Fanø is a Danish island in the North Sea, off the southwestern coast of Denmark. It is the northernmost of the Danish Wadden Sea islands. 16 km long and 3 km wide, it offers extremely wide beaches with a firm base and consistent winds.
Fanø's location directly in the North Sea ensures strong and consistent westerly winds. The wind passes through the narrow gap between the dunes and accelerates, creating optimal conditions. It's also an internationally renowned spot for landkite and kite buggying.
The island hosts the famous "Fanø International Kite Fliers Meeting" every June.
Best season from March to October. The island is accessible by ferry from Esbjerg (approximately 12-minute crossing). Air temperatures: 10-20°C in spring, up to 30°C in summer, 10-16°C in autumn.

Intermediate
West side: waves and North Sea conditions, suited for intermediate to advanced riders. Maximum water temperatures in the low 20°C range between June and August. Wetsuit necessary year-round.
Car access to the beach possible. The very wide beaches offer plenty of space. The island is accessible by ferry from Esbjerg.
Westerly winds work best, offering optimal conditions for wave riding. The spot also works in S, N, NW and SW winds. The west wind passing through the narrow gap between the dunes accelerates, providing stronger and more reliable winds on the east side of the island - however, kitesurfing is forbidden there (protected area).
Important: the east side of Fanø is a protected area and kitesurfing is forbidden there. Watch out for tides and currents. Check weather conditions before each session. The spot can be exposed to strong North Sea swells.
