Laggan Bay is a large sandy bay on the west coast of Islay, an island famous for its whisky distilleries. Facing west towards the Atlantic, the bay receives powerful swells and dominant southwest winds. Excellent surf and kite spot with quality waves. A vast and uncrowded beach.
Parking accessible from the road between Bowmore and Port Ellen. Islay is accessible by ferry from Kennacraig (approximately 2 hours crossing with CalMac) or by plane from Glasgow.
Hazards
Drift currents along the coast. Powerful shore break in big swell. Cold water all year round. Remoteness — limited rescue services. Wind can be very strong and changeable.
