Agios Sotiras Beach is a spot in the far northeast of Greece, in the Evros region (eastern Thrace), near the Turkish border. Facing south towards the northern Aegean Sea, this spot is located in one of the windiest areas of Greece. The Meltemi (NE/E) is exceptionally powerful in this part of the Aegean, channeled between the Thracian coast and the Turkish islands. The nearby Evros river delta creates shallow areas and reinforced thermal conditions.
Launch from the south-facing sandy beach. In Meltemi (NE/ENE), the wind is side-shore — excellent riding conditions along the coast. In S/SSW wind, onshore conditions. Open sailing area on the northern Aegean. The Meltemi is often very strong — adjust kite/sail size accordingly. Possibility of finding sheltered areas in neighbouring coves in very strong wind.
Moderate to strong chop depending on the Meltemi. The open Aegean fetch generates swell in sustained wind. In Meltemi side-shore, chop is moderate to sustained. Clear northern Aegean water. Progressive depth from the sandy beach. Shallow areas exist near the Evros delta.

Open all year round
Access from Alexandroupoli via the coastal road eastward. Parking along the road or on tracks leading to the beach. Border zone — respect military areas and access restrictions. Bring water and provisions — few services in this isolated area.
Extremely powerful Meltemi in this area (30-50 knots frequent) — spot reserved for experienced riders in strong wind. Border zone with Turkey — do NOT drift eastward, military zone. Strong current along the coast in sustained Meltemi. Significant swell in strong wind. Very isolated spot — sailing with a buddy mandatory. Limited mobile coverage. Evros delta: Natura 2000 protected areas — respect regulations.
The Meltemi (NE/ENE) reaches its maximum intensity in this eastern zone of the northern Aegean. The wind is channeled between the Thracian and Turkish coasts, creating a powerful funneling effect. In summer, the Meltemi can blow 30-50 knots for several consecutive days. The proximity of the Evros delta reinforces thermals through differential heating between the wetlands and the sea. S/SSW winds offer a secondary regime during weather systems. One of the most consistently windy areas of Greece.
