Rainbow Beach

Rainbow Beach

Overview

Rainbow Beach is a spectacular kitesurfing spot located on the Queensland coast, approximately 240 km north of Brisbane. This beach is famous for its coloured sand cliffs and its proximity to Fraser Island (K'gari), the largest sand island in the world. The spot offers an exceptional natural setting for kitesurfing. Wind conditions are excellent thanks to the southeasterly trade winds that blow consistently, especially between October and March. The beach is huge and faces east, offering a perfect side-shore angle with SE winds. Waves can be substantial with Pacific swell, and currents can be strong. Rainbow Beach is a spot for intermediate to advanced riders due to the relative isolation and wave conditions. The beach is vast and uncrowded, offering unlimited space to ride. The village of Rainbow Beach has shops, accommodation and restaurants. It is also the departure point for ferries to Fraser Island. Watch out for sharks in this area and the strength of currents. It is recommended to ride with a buddy. Double Island Point to the south offers natural protection and exceptional downwind conditions on strong wind days.
