The Pool is a protected natural tidal basin behind Biddeford Pool Beach on Maine's southern coast. This sheltered body of water offers flat water conditions ideal for beginners and learning. The basin fills and empties with the tide, creating a calm and shallow riding area.
Flat and protected water in the tidal basin. Ideal conditions for learning and freestyle. Variable depth depending on tide — can be very shallow at low tide. Cold water year-round — full wetsuit essential (5/4mm in winter, 4/3mm in summer). Sandy and muddy bottom.
Beginner
Open all year round
Strong currents at the basin entrance during tidal filling and draining. Very shallow at low tide — risk of bottom contact. Muddy bottom in some areas. Cold water — hypothermia risk. Riding area limited by the basin size.
