Overview

Borkum Südstrand is the Wadden Sea side of the island, facing the mainland. Shallow standing-depth water at high tide — pleasant sandy bottom. Accessible approximately 2–3 hours around high tide. Windsurfing and wingsurfing allowed outside protected areas. Kiting strictly prohibited on the Watt side (NordSBefV).

Access on foot or by bicycle from the village. High tide required (approximately 2–3 hours around HW). Windsurfing allowed outside Nationalpark zones. Check with ÖY Borkum or the town hall for the exact delimitation of authorized areas.

All directions rideable for windsurfing thanks to protection from the mainland side. N/NE: perfect smooth water. SW: offshore from the sea, less consistent wind. E/SE: free wind from the mainland.
Hazards
Kiting prohibited on the south side (Wadden Sea) — Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer National Park. Windsurfing outside protection zones only. Seal and bird protection zones: strict distances. Tide: access only around high tide.
