Overview

Ramp 25 is a National Park Service beach access ramp on Hatteras Island, between Salvo and Avon. This 4WD ramp provides access to a wild section of ocean beach within Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The area is isolated and offers wide open space for wave kiting. It's a spot favored by riders seeking solitude and space. An Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) permit is required for vehicle access.

On the water

Atlantic ocean waves. Variable shore break depending on swell. Sandy bottom with shifting sandbars. Best conditions are in side-shore NE to SE winds. Very uncrowded beach section with plenty of riding space. Waves can be excellent for strapless kiting.

Hazards

4WD access only — ORV permit required. Rip currents possible. Shore break can be violent. Stingrays in shallow water. Jellyfish in summer. Very isolated beach — ride with a buddy and inform someone of your session. Afternoon thunderstorms with lightning possible in summer.
