Kamloops Lake is a large east-west oriented lake located at Savona, west of Kamloops. The lake stretches through a dry and hot valley in BC's interior. The westerly wind is dominant and channelled by the Thompson River valley. Conditions are often windy and reliable in summer afternoons. Spectacular desert landscape with sun-baked hills.
Fresh water. Flat to choppy water with good chop in sustained wind. Excellent fetch along the E-W lake axis (over 30 km). Sand and mud bottom. Warm water in summer (20-24°C). Light current from the Thompson River.

Wind can be very strong and gusty in the valley corridor. Remote area — distant rescue services. Motorboats and barges. The long fetch can create significant chop. Extreme heat in summer (> 40°C) — stay hydrated. Wildfires frequent in the region.
