Overview

La Tour d'Eole is a premium ecolodge with its own exclusive kite spot on the eastern shore of the Dakhla lagoon, on the continental side. Also known as "Dream Spot" or "Turtle Bay", it's the first establishment built in this still-pristine area, far from the sometimes crowded camps on the peninsula.

The lagoon in front of the hotel offers a flat, shallow water playground influenced by tides. At high tide, "La Piscine" forms — a butter-flat zone with wonderful shallow water conditions (150-200m standing area), available roughly every other week depending on tide and moon cycles. A paradise for beginners and freestylers alike.

The Ocean Academy, co-founded with triple freestyle world champion Bruna Kajiya, offers top-tier instruction and the latest Duotone/Fanatic equipment. Side-onshore wind provides maximum safety for learners. Plenty of space on the water — no crowding.

The ecolodge itself is a luxury affair: 45 bungalows built with sustainable materials, solar panels, organic gourmet cuisine by Chef Ali Timouni, infinity pool overlooking the lagoon, spa with traditional hammam, daily yoga, and excursions to the White Dune, Pointe de l'Or, Oum Labouir, and the Asnaa hot springs.

Spot functioning

Lagoon — flat, shallow water. Side-onshore NNE wind. Two zones: the main lagoon (in front of the hotel) and "La Piscine" (butter-flat shallow pool that forms at high tide, ~every other week). Standing area 150-200m wide. Kites 7-12m. Wingfoil possible but some chop when wind picks up on this wide section of lagoon.

Spot opening date

Open all year round

Year-round. Best wind: April-October (15-25+ knots, up to 40 knots in summer). Winter: more moderate (force 4-6) but still rideable. "La Piscine" available approximately every other week depending on tides. Excursions to wave spots and White Dune organized regularly.

Required level

Beginner

On the water

Flat lagoon water, shallow (you can stand almost everywhere). Sandy bottom with occasional shells and small stones. "La Piscine" at high tide: butter flat, 0.3-1m deep. Main lagoon: slight chop when wind picks up, deeper. Water 19-23°C. Wetsuit 3/2mm, shorty in summer.

Parking

Located on the eastern shore of the lagoon, continental side. 45 min from Dakhla airport by road (going around the lagoon). The Ocean Academy is 700m from the hotel — accessible in 12 min on foot or by 4x4/electric buggy. Flights: Royal Air Maroc (via Casablanca/Marrakech), Transavia direct Paris-Dakhla (Tuesdays), Air Arabia, Binter (Las Palmas). Airport transfers included with hotel booking.

Wind specificities

Dominant NNE wind, side-onshore on this east-facing shore — maximum safety, wind pushes you back. 15-25 knots typical, up to 40 knots summer with thermal reinforcement. Wider lagoon section at this point = can generate more chop than sheltered spots further north. Consistent 300+ days/year.

Hazards

Very safe spot — side-onshore wind pushes towards the shore. Shallow water, you can stand almost everywhere. Some sharp shells and small stones on the bottom — reef shoes recommended. Stronger current at high tide. Intense Saharan sun — protection essential. Isolated location — always ride with the Ocean Academy supervision or with company.
