Schiermonnikoog — Oosterstrand (Daly Bay) is a kitesurf spot on the eastern North Sea coast of Schiermonnikoog, the smallest and most easterly of the inhabited Wadden Islands. Kite zone between beach poles 3 and 5. At high tide, a large lagoon forms — ideal for beginners. Open sea delivers small to medium waves for advanced riders. Year-round access.
⚠️ No cars allowed on Schiermonnikoog — arrive by ferry from Lauwersoog, then bike (~15 min ride north). Wide, uncrowded beaches — true wild nature experience. KiteMobile school present on the island. Very quiet compared to Texel or Terschelling. Strong winds and bigger waves in autumn/winter. UNESCO World Heritage Waddenzee site.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Flat lagoon at high tide — ideal for beginners and freestyle. Open North Sea delivers small to medium waves. Tide-dependent: best from mid- to high tide. Choppy to wavy. Foil also excellent in the lagoon.
Strong tidal currents on the North Sea side. At low tide, sandbanks create long wave lines but dangerous undertow. Best conditions from mid- to high tide. Cars are forbidden on Schiermonnikoog — access by bike or on foot from the village (bike path north). Waddenzee nesting area restrictions may apply on the south coast.
