Rainbow Haven Beach is a popular beach at the entrance to Cole Harbour, 20 minutes east of Halifax. This spot offers a unique dual configuration: ocean side with Atlantic swell for advanced riders, and bay side (Cole Harbour) with flat water for beginners at high tide. The tide plays a crucial role — at low tide, vast sandbars are exposed. Rainbow Haven is one of Halifax's most accessible kitesurfing spots.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Dual exposure: Atlantic side with swell and waves, Cole Harbour side with flatter, sheltered water. Sandy bottom. Semi-diurnal tides with significant range radically modifying the water body. At low tide, possible to ride on sandbars in very shallow water. Cold water (8-16°C).
Strong currents at Cole Harbour entrance, especially at tide changes. Atlantic swell on ocean side. Cold water year-round. Shifting sandbars — unpredictable bottom. Very busy area with walkers and swimmers in summer.
