Eretria is a spot in the South Euboean Gulf, on the west coast of central Evia, facing the mainland. This historic site (ancient Greek city) offers a very protected body of water in one of Greece's narrowest straits, a few kilometers south of the famous Chalkida (Euripos) passage where the strait is only 40 meters wide.
Conditions are ideal for beginners and progression thanks to very flat water and moderate winds. The dominant wind is channeled NW/NNW in the gulf, arriving onshore to side-onshore on this coast.
The spot works from May to October thanks to channeled NW/NNW wind and thermal breezes. Ultra-flat water perfect for learning and progression. Conditions are very different from Evia's east coast — here it's gentle and protected. Ideal for kite lessons, wingfoil, and paddle.
Very flat, protected water of the South Euboean Gulf. Fetch is extremely limited by the strait width (only a few kilometers), guaranteeing smooth water even in moderate wind. Sandy and muddy bottom in places, very progressive depth. Calm, warm water in summer (25-28°C in this semi-enclosed gulf).

Eretria is a small tourist town with public parking. Parking along the waterfront and adjacent streets. Frequent ferry from Oropos on the mainland (20-minute crossing), providing easy access from Athens. In high season, the town is lively but parking remains accessible.
Tidal current in the Euripos strait (unique phenomenon: current changes direction approximately every 6 hours). Ferry traffic between Eretria and Oropos — stay clear of the ferry route. Muddy bottom in places, not ideal for walking barefoot. Pleasure boat traffic in summer.
Wind is channeled in the South Euboean Gulf, arriving mainly from NW/NNW. The narrowness of the strait and surrounding mountains create a moderate channeling effect, with typical winds of 10-18 knots in summer. Wind is generally steadier and lighter than on the island's east coast (exposed to direct Meltemi).
Thermal breeze from W/SW develops some afternoons, offering gentle, steady conditions ideal for beginners.
