Gomati is a spot on the northern Aegean coast, in the Thrace region, between Komotini and Alexandroupoli. Facing south towards the Aegean Sea, this spot shares the same wind regime as neighbouring Plaka, with the Meltemi (NE/ENE) as the dominant summer wind. The Thracian coast here offers long sandy beaches with a hinterland of lagoons and wetlands. Wild and preserved spot, less frequented than Greece's classic tourist destinations.
Launch from the long south-facing sandy beach. In Meltemi (NE/ENE), the wind is side-shore — excellent conditions for riding along the coast. In S/SSW wind, onshore conditions. Possibility of riding in lagoons in moderate wind for flat water conditions. The long beach offers plenty of space and multiple launch options.
Moderate to sustained chop in open sea depending on the Meltemi. Flat water in the lagoons. The open Aegean fetch can generate swell in strong wind. In moderate side-shore Meltemi, pleasant conditions with manageable chop. Clear northern Aegean water.

Access from the Thracian coastal road. Parking on dirt tracks or natural areas near the beach. Wild zone — sometimes sandy terrain, beware of getting stuck. Bring water and provisions.
Potentially very powerful Meltemi — assess your skills carefully. Current along the coast in strong wind. Swell possible in sustained Meltemi. Wild and isolated area — sail with a buddy. Limited mobile coverage. Lagoon areas with muddy bottom — beware of getting stuck.
The Meltemi (NE/ENE) is the dominant summer wind, blowing powerfully from June to September. In this Thracian zone, the Meltemi has a more easterly component than in the central Aegean, arriving side-shore to side-onshore on the south-facing coast. S/SSW winds offer a secondary regime during weather systems. The straight and open coast receives wind without obstacles, offering laminar and consistent conditions. Lagoon areas behind the beach can offer flat water conditions sheltered from moderate wind.
