Nea Mesagkala - Zbouka is a spot on the east coast of Thessaly, very close to Stomio, at the exit of the Tempi valley. This spot shares the same characteristics as its neighbours: the Venturi effect of the Tempi valley (Vardaris channeled between Olympus and Ossa) and direct exposure to the Meltemi (NE/E) from the Aegean Sea. The beach offers an alternative to Stomio and Poroi with similar conditions.
Launch from the east-facing sandy beach. In Meltemi (NE/E onshore), accessible conditions with waves and chop. ⚠️ In Vardaris (NNW offshore), dangerous conditions for non-experienced — the wind pushes out to sea. The spot works best in moderate east/NE wind. Sandy bottom, progressive depth.
Moderate to sustained chop in east/NE onshore wind. Waves possible with the Aegean fetch. In moderate wind, pleasant conditions. Northern Aegean water. Sandy bottom.

Open all year round
Access from the coastal road between Stomio and the Mesagkala area. Parking along the road or in areas near the beach. Rural area with few services.
⚠️ OFFSHORE wind in Vardaris — same danger as at Stomio. Venturi effect can generate gusts at 40+ knots. Shore break and swell in strong east wind. Possible current along the coast. Pineios river current nearby. Never sail alone in offshore Vardaris.
Same wind regime as neighbouring Stomio and Poroi. The Vardaris (NNW) is channeled and accelerated by the Tempi valley (Venturi effect 20-40%), blowing offshore on the coast. The Meltemi (NE/E) from the Aegean arrives onshore to side-onshore. The two regimes often alternate during the day. The Venturi effect diminishes further from the valley axis — this spot may be slightly less impacted than Stomio depending on its exact position relative to the valley exit.
