Kirra Beach is an iconic kitesurfing and surfing spot located on the Gold Coast, in southern Queensland. World-famous for its perfect barrel waves, Kirra is one of the most famous beaches in Australia. The spot attracts riders from all along the east coast for its exceptional wave conditions combined with reliable wind. The prevailing wind blows from the southeast (trade winds), creating ideal side-shore to side-onshore conditions for kitesurfing in the waves. The swell generally comes from the east to southeast and can regularly produce 1 to 2 meter waves, with bigger days during cyclone swells. The water is warm year-round, between 20°C in winter and 27°C in summer. The best period for kitesurfing is from November to March, when the trade winds are most consistent. Kirra is a demanding spot due to the power of the waves and shore break. Riders must be experienced in waves and aware of strong currents. The beach is heavily frequented by surfers, so it is essential to maintain a safe distance and respect designated zones. Parking is available along the coastal road. Amenities (showers, toilets, cafes) are easily accessible. This is a spot that offers a world-class wave kitesurfing experience for advanced riders.
