Gisborne is a kitesurfing spot located in Poverty Bay, on the east coast of the North Island. The city of Gisborne is known for being the first city in the world to see the sunrise each day, and offers several beaches suitable for kitesurfing. Prevailing winds are from the north to northeast (sea breeze) and south. The bay offers some protection depending on wind direction. The water body is subject to waves in east to northeast winds.
