Clear Lake State Beach is a kitesurf spot on the south shore of Clear Lake, Iowa's third-largest natural lake. The state beach offers good water access with a wide sandy launch area. Prevailing south and north winds provide good fetch on this 14 km² lake. Ideal for beginners and intermediates in calm conditions. Season from May to October.
Shallow freshwater (max depth ~5m). Water temperature from 0°C in winter (frozen) to 25°C in summer. Sandy bottom near beach, muddy further out. Short chop in strong winds. Full 4/3 wetsuit in spring/fall, shorty or rashguard in summer.

Frequent violent thunderstorms in summer with lightning — exit water immediately if sky threatens. Heavy boat traffic in summer. Shallow lake: risk of hitting bottom. Blue-green algae possible in summer — check health advisories. Marked swimming area to respect.
