Overview

Bay City State Park is a kitesurf spot located on the southwestern shore of Saginaw Bay, near Bay City, Michigan. This state park offers access to the shallow waters of Saginaw Bay, with a sandy beach and protected marshland areas. Tobico Marsh, one of the largest coastal marshes on the Great Lakes, is within the park. The bay offers sheltered conditions with flat water to moderate chop.

Saginaw Bay water body, shallow and sheltered. Moderate chop in sustained winds without large waves. Water warms faster than open Lake Huron due to shallow depth. Full wetsuit required in spring and fall, shorty in summer. Sandy and muddy bottom. Vast riding area.

Shallow bay becoming rough quickly in northeast winds. Cold water with hypothermia risk in spring and fall. Shoals and marshy areas. Fishing and recreational boat traffic in summer. Violent thunderstorms possible with lightning risk. Algal blooms possible in summer. State park — respect regulations and protected marsh areas.
