The Wax Spot is a kitesurfing spot in the Lac Saint-Pierre area, on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, between Nicolet and Bécancour. A local spot named by the regional kitesurfing community.
Like other Lac Saint-Pierre spots, the Wax Spot benefits from the vast fetch of this river widening (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve). North winds cross the full width of the lake. Shallow water over great distances. Season from June to October.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Fresh water from the widened St. Lawrence River. Temperature of 20-24°C in summer. Muddy to sandy bottom, very shallow. Short, tight chop characteristic of Lac Saint-Pierre. Weak current on the south shore. Large shallows areas usable for sailing.
Shallows everywhere — risk of bottom contact. Commercial shipping channel — never cross. Marshy areas on the periphery. UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — respect protected areas. Frequent summer thunderstorms.
