Thermi Beach is a spot on the east coast of Lesvos, near Mytilini, facing Turkey across the strait. The spot benefits from the Meltemi channeling through the strait between Lesvos and the Turkish coast, creating an accelerated N/NNE wind. The water is relatively flat thanks to the limited fetch from Turkey's proximity. It's an accessible spot from the island's capital, ideal for a quick session.
Rideable May to September with the Meltemi channeled in the strait. Wind picks up late morning. Launch from the beach. The water in the strait is relatively flat (fetch limited by Turkey). Convenient spot from Mytilini for residents and tourists. No dedicated kite center but gear rental possible nearby.
Water in the strait with moderate chop. No big waves thanks to the short fetch (Turkey ~10km away). Sandy and pebbly bottom. Warm water in summer (24-26°C). Short chop conditions rather than long swell.

Open all year round
Parking in Thermi, a well-known thermal village near Mytilini. Parking along the coastal road and in public car parks. Paved access from Mytilini (10km). Shops and restaurants in the village.
Significant maritime traffic in the strait: Lesvos-Turkey ferries, cargo ships, fishing boats. Stay clear of shipping lanes. International maritime border — do not cross toward Turkey. Currents in the strait in strong wind. Gusts possible due to channel effect.
The Meltemi (N/NNE) channels through the strait between Lesvos and Turkey (~10km wide), creating a Venturi effect that accelerates the wind. Wind arrives from N/NNE side-onshore on this east-facing coast. The strait acceleration gives conditions often 3-5 knots stronger than open sea. Wind is consistent in summer (15-25 knots) but can be gusty due to the channel effect. In NE/E wind, the wind is onshore.
