Lardos Bay is a bay on the southeast coast of Rhodes, between Lindos and Kiotari. This southeast-facing bay can receive wind from several directions. In strong Meltemi, the NW wind wraps around the southern tip of the island and can create rideable conditions in the bay. In SE/S winds, the spot works onshore. The sandy beach is long and the setting is beautiful with Rhodes' hills in the background. Lardos is less crowded than the northern resorts.
Lardos Bay works with multiple wind directions. The riding area is sheltered and less rough than the west coast. Shallow water for the first meters. No kite center — self-sufficient spot. Interesting alternative when the west coast is overpowered.
Aegean Sea SE coast, 22-27°C in summer. Lycra or shorty. Sandy bottom. Generally calmer water than the west coast. Small chop in moderate wind.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Parking along the access road to Lardos Bay. Beachside spaces. Some tavernas with parking. Car necessary from Rhodes Town (about 50km).
Wind conditions less predictable than the west coast. Wind can be gusty (island wrap-around). Isolated spot — sail with a partner. Swimmers in high season. Current possible.
Lardos Bay has a complex southeast exposure. In strong NW Meltemi, the wind wraps around the south of Rhodes and can arrive as W/NW in the bay, creating cross-shore conditions. In SE/S winds (outside Meltemi season), the spot receives direct onshore wind. Conditions are less reliable and predictable than the west coast. Wind is generally more moderate: 12-20 knots. The spot is interesting as an alternative when the west coast is too violent.
