Base Gouves is a kitesurfing spot on the north coast of Crete, between Heraklion and Hersonissos. The name refers to a water sports/kite base established in this area. The north-facing beach receives the typical onshore Meltemi of the north Cretan coast.
A well-organized spot for kitesurfing with potentially a water sports center on site. Conditions are classic: reliable onshore Meltemi, choppy water, accessible to intermediates.
Potentially organized water sports base with supervision. Lessons and rental possible. Launching from sand beach. Sailing area along the north coast.
Works from June to September. On-site supervision makes the spot more accessible than wild east coast spots.

Open water with onshore chop. Sandy bottom, progressive depth. Sea of Crete water, clear and warm in summer (23-26°C).
Parking at the water sports center/base. Area between Heraklion and Hersonissos, well served by the national road. Gouves is a tourist village with hotels and shops.
Onshore Meltemi from N/NNW, 15-25 knots from June to September. Conditions identical to neighboring spots (Amoudara, Anissaras). Reliable and consistent wind in peak summer. Thermal reinforcement in the afternoon.
Tourist area – respect swimmers and marked zones. Moderate coastal current possible. Coastal maritime traffic.
