Overview

Vella Island is a small island off the northern tip of the Kalpitiya peninsula in North Western Province. The island is surrounded by shallow waters and offers riding during the SW monsoon (May-October).

An intermediate to advanced spot. Access by boat. The island provides multiple riding angles depending on wind direction. Shallow waters with sandy bottom. Currents can be strong around the island, especially during tidal changes. A remote, uncrowded spot for adventurous riders. No facilities on the island.
