Overview

Martinique Beach is one of Nova Scotia's longest sand beaches (5 km), located in a provincial park on the Atlantic coast east of Halifax. This immense beach facing due south on the open Atlantic Ocean receives ocean swells and offers considerable space for kitesurfing. The provincial park protects a fragile dune ecosystem — respect marked trails. The beach's length allows finding open space even in summer.

Atlantic Ocean with regular swell. Beach break along 5 km of beach. Waves 0.5-3 m depending on conditions. Sandy bottom with sandbars. Frequent rip currents. Cold water year-round (8-16°C). Semi-diurnal tides. Immense space for riding without conflicts with other users.

Powerful rip currents on this long exposed beach. Sometimes very strong Atlantic swell. Cold water — thick wetsuit mandatory. Protected dune ecosystem — do not walk on dunes. Frequent summer fog. Relatively remote from rescue at beach extremities.
