Spot de Halifax Harbour

Halifax Harbour

Halifax Harbour

Overview

Halifax Harbour is a kitesurf spot located in the natural harbour of Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia. This harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in the world and offers a unique urban body of water for kitesurfing, with the Halifax skyline as a backdrop. The spot benefits from prevailing southwest and west winds that blow regularly, especially from October to April when winds are strongest. Northeast winds are also rideable. The water is influenced by Atlantic tides and maritime traffic (watch out for ships and ferries). The Halifax kite community is active, with schools like Kite Arcade and Halifax Kitesurfing offering lessons in the area. The main spots are rather around Lawrencetown Beach and Crescent Beach, but the harbour offers unique urban sessions. The water is cold and requires a full wetsuit year-round. The season runs from May to October. This spot is suitable for advanced riders due to maritime traffic, currents and the harbour environment. Riders must be very vigilant and respect navigation zones.
