Muizenberg Corner is the most popular kitesurfing spot on False Bay, located at the western end of the long Muizenberg beach. The "corner" refers to the angle of the coastline that creates a venturi effect accelerating the SE wind. It's an iconic Cape Town spot where the kite community gathers when the Cape Doctor blows on False Bay. The white sand beach offers easy access and the setting is stunning with the mountain backdrop.
Works mainly in SE wind (side-onshore to onshore). The season runs from October to March with the Cape Doctor. The spot is rideable at all tides but low tide offers more beach for launching. Mornings are often calm, wind picks up in the early afternoon and builds until sunset. The "corner" catches wind earlier than other spots on the bay.
Small waves of 0.5 to 1.5m breaking on sandy bottom, ideal for surfing and kite-wave. The water gets choppy in strong wind but remains manageable. Water is warmer than the Atlantic side (16-20°C), a 3/2 wetsuit is enough in summer. Moderate lateral current towards the east in strong SE.

Free parking along the coastal road (Beach Road) facing the spot. Limited spaces in peak season and weekends. Arrive early in summer. Do not leave any valuables visible in your vehicle — car break-ins are common in this area.
Sharks: False Bay is known for great white shark presence, especially between Muizenberg and Fish Hoek. Shark Spotters are on duty — respect the flag warnings. Surfers: shared zone with many surfers, keep your distance. Theft: do not leave anything in your car. Lateral current in strong SE.
The dominant wind is SE (Cape Doctor), blowing from October to March, 15 to 30+ knots. At Muizenberg Corner, the coastline angle creates a venturi effect that accelerates the wind, often making it stronger than elsewhere on the bay. The wind is onshore to side-onshore, perfect for kiting. NW blows in winter but is less reliable. Watch for gusty conditions in strong SE.
