Overview

Kandakuliya Sunrise Lagoon is a flat water spot on the lagoon side of the Kalpitiya peninsula in North Western Province. The lagoon provides sheltered conditions during the SW monsoon season (May-October).

A beginner-friendly lagoon spot. Shallow water with a sandy bottom, no waves, no tidal influence. Good for learning and freestyle. The "Sunrise" name reflects the east-facing lagoon side catching beautiful morning light. Some kite schools operate in this area. Quieter than the main Kappalady lagoon spots.
