Lake Aviemore is a kitesurfing spot located in the Waitaki Valley, Canterbury, at 270 meters altitude. This artificial lake, created by the Aviemore Dam on the Waitaki River, offers an elongated body of water surrounded by the dry hills typical of the Mackenzie Country. Dominant winds are the Nor'wester (NE) channeled through the valley, and southwest winds. The lake is wide enough to offer a good body of water, but winds can be gusty due to the terrain. The water is cold. No tides. Spot for intermediate riders.
