Eerstesteen ("First Stone") is a reef break located on the Melkbosstrand coast, right next to DerdeSteen. This advanced wave spot offers quality wave riding conditions on a rocky reef. The south-easterly Cape Doctor blows side-shore to side-offshore, creating technical and committed conditions. Eerstesteen is part of the trio of reef breaks (with DerdeSteen and Kamers) that attracts experienced wave riders from the Cape region.
Works with the southwest swell and the SE Cape Doctor. Best from mid-tide to high tide. Waves break from 1 to 3 meters on the reef. Technical wave riding spot reserved for experienced riders. Best in the afternoon when the thermal wind is established.

Parking along Otto du Plessis Drive in Melkbosstrand. Short walk from the road to the spot. Little infrastructure. Don't leave valuables in your car.
South-easterly Cape Doctor, side-shore to side-offshore on this northwest-facing stretch of coast. Wind of 15 to 35 knots during the season (October-March). Optimal wave riding conditions are with moderate wind (18-25 knots) for a good balance between power and control.
Shallow rocky reef — risk of serious injuries. Powerful waves. Strong currents. Abundant kelp. Cold water. Isolated spot without lifeguards. Sea urchins on the reef. Reserved for advanced riders.
