Smaills Beach is a kitesurfing spot located on the east coast of Otago, near Dunedin, on the South Island of New Zealand. This small beach is on the Otago Peninsula and offers sailing conditions exposed to South Pacific swell. The spot is at 26 meters altitude on the coastal cliffs with beach access below. Dominant winds in the Dunedin area are variable, with south, southwest and northeast components. Conditions can be technical with irregular winds influenced by the Otago Peninsula terrain. The spot is suitable for advanced kitesurfers due to wave exposure and sometimes fickle winds. A full wetsuit is essential as the water off the Dunedin coast is notoriously cold.
