Nakaumi is a kitesurfing spot located on Lake Nakaumi (a brackish inland lake) in Shimane Prefecture, on the Sea of Japan coast. This 86 km² lake is connected to the sea via Lake Shinji and offers a vast flat body of water, ideal for kitesurfing and wingfoiling. Lake Nakaumi benefits from dominant northwest winds in winter, blowing from the Sea of Japan. These winter winds are consistent and sometimes powerful, creating excellent sailing conditions. In summer, thermal breezes are more moderate. The water is flat with enough fetch to generate light chop in strong wind. Being brackish (a mix of fresh and salt water), the lake is not affected by tides. It is a spot suited to beginners and intermediates thanks to the flat water and shallow depth. The city of Matsue, the prefectural capital, is nearby with all necessary amenities.
