Castiglione del Lago is the main spot on Lago Trasimeno, the largest lake in central Italy located in Umbria. This shallow lake (max depth 6 m) offers ideal conditions for beginners and intermediates thanks to its flat water and sandy bottom where you can stand far from shore. The lake benefits from regular thermal winds in summer as well as Tramontana and Libeccio winds. The medieval town of Castiglione del Lago as a backdrop makes sessions particularly enjoyable.

Free parking near the lake at Castiglione del Lago. Several access points along the western shore of the lake. In summer, spaces may be limited on weekends.
The prevailing winds are the Libeccio (SW) and Tramontana (N). Afternoon thermals are frequent in summer. As the lake is very shallow, chop forms quickly but remains moderate.
Very shallow lake: risk of hitting the bottom in case of a fall. Aquatic weeds in summer that can hinder sailing. Respect fishing zones.
