Sandy Hook is an iconic peninsula in the Gateway National Recreation Area in New Jersey. This general spot covers the main area on the east coast of Sandy Hook, facing the Atlantic Ocean. The peninsula is one of the best kitesurfing locations in the New York area, offering both an ocean side with waves and a bay side with flat water.
Ocean side: waves, shore break, and possible swell. Bay side: flat and sheltered waters. Conditions vary considerably depending on the side chosen. Tidal currents present on both sides. Sandy bottom.
