Αλς (Als) is a spot on the east coast of Attica, in the Loutsa/Artemida area. The beach faces east/NE toward the Aegean Sea and receives the N/NNE Meltemi as side-onshore. It's one of the many east Attica coast spots that benefit from direct Meltemi exposure.
Located very close to Trolly and Nissakia Loutsa, this spot offers similar conditions. The Greek name (Αλς) means "salt" or refers to the sea, reflecting the maritime character of this coast.
Sessions from late morning to sunset during Meltemi season. Semi-open water, intermediate conditions. Good alternative to Schinias when it's too crowded. Also works with easterly thermal on calm days.
Semi-open water. Chop of 20-50cm in moderate Meltemi. Sandy bottom with rocky areas. Clear water. Temperature: 22-26°C in summer.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Parking along the Loutsa/Artemida coastal road. Residential area with spaces in adjacent streets. Close to Athens airport (Eleftherios Venizelos). Beach bars and tavernas nearby. Easy access from Athens (35 min).
Submerged rocks in places. Coastal currents in strong wind. Aircraft traffic approaching the airport (not dangerous for sailing but noisy). Pleasure boats.
N/NNE Meltemi side-onshore, 12-22 knots in summer. Conditions very similar to neighboring Trolly and Nissakia Loutsa spots. E/ENE thermal in the afternoon complements the Meltemi on weak synoptic wind days. Wind is reliable from June to September.
