Spot de Cloudy Bay, Bruny Island

Cloudy Bay, Bruny Island

Cloudy Bay, Bruny Island

Overview

Cloudy Bay is a kitesurfing spot located on Bruny Island, off the southeast coast of Tasmania. This wild bay on the south coast of the island is exposed to powerful Southern Ocean swells. Bruny Island is accessible by ferry from Kettering, south of Hobart. The dominant wind comes from southwest to west, blowing onshore to cross-onshore on this exposed coast. The Southern Ocean waves are powerful and consistent. The bottom is sandy and the beach is long and wild. The water is very cold (12-16°C). The spot is reserved for advanced to expert riders due to total isolation, powerful waves and lack of services. Access requires a ferry then an unsealed road. 5/4 wetsuit recommended. Bruny Island is famous for its wildlife (seals, albatrosses, penguins). Buddy sailing mandatory.
