Marmari is the ferry port of southern Evia, located in the influence zone of the famous Kavo Doro passage, one of the most powerful wind corridors in the Aegean Sea. The town sits a few kilometers from Golden Beach, the reference spot of the area.
Marmari receives the Meltemi channeled through the passage between Evia and Andros island, with slightly less intensity than Golden Beach but still impressive. The spot offers slightly more protected water than the main beach, which can be appreciated on very strong Meltemi days.
The spot works from June to September with the Meltemi. The port and bay offer partial protection, allowing sailing when Golden Beach is too committed. The ferry from Rafina makes this spot accessible for a kite weekend from Athens. Local kite schools available.
Semi-protected water in the port bay. In Meltemi, chop of 0.5-1m, less than Golden Beach thanks to partial shelter. Sandy bottom in the sailing zone. Crystal-clear water typical of southern Evia. Temperature: 22-26°C in summer.

Parking at Marmari port and along the coastal road. The town has full services (restaurants, supermarkets, hotels). Ferry from Rafina (Attica) — about 1-hour crossing, frequent summer service. Ideal as a base for sailing at Marmari and Golden Beach.
⚠️ Proximity to the Kavo Doro passage — do not drift southeast! Violent currents and cross-seas in the strait. Ferry traffic at Marmari port — stay clear of the ferry route. In strong Meltemi (>25 knots), committed conditions even in the protected area. Rocks on the sides of the bay.
Kavo Doro Venturi effect: the N/NNE Meltemi accelerates by 20-50% passing between Evia and Andros. At Marmari, wind is slightly less strong than at Golden Beach due to a different exposure angle, but remains powerful: 15-25 knots typical, gusting to 30+ knots. S/SSE thermal also works outside Meltemi episodes.
