Elwood is a very popular urban kitesurfing spot located on the shores of Port Phillip Bay, in Melbourne's southern suburbs, Victoria. It is one of Melbourne's most frequented spots thanks to its accessibility and conditions suited to all levels. The sandy beach is lined with parks and cafes, creating a relaxed atmosphere typical of Melbourne. The dominant south to southwest winds blow onshore on this southwest-facing beach. Melbourne's famous "Southerly" offers reliable sessions in summer, with winds that regularly pick up in the early afternoon. The body of water is flat to slightly choppy, perfect for freeride and learning. Shallow waters extend far from shore. Elwood is extremely well served by public transport (tram line 67). Parking can be difficult in summer. Be aware of swimmers, dogs on the beach and marked swimming zones. The spot has a strong community with an active kite scene.
