Back Beach is a spot in Tremont on Mount Desert Island, near Acadia National Park. This beach faces Blue Hill Bay on the quiet side of the island. The setting is spectacular with Acadia's mountains as a backdrop and a preserved natural environment.

Bay water with moderate chop. Calmer conditions than open ocean thanks to Blue Hill Bay's protection. Very cold water year-round — full wetsuit essential (5/4mm in winter, 4/3mm in summer). Very significant Maine-typical tide. Mixed sand and rock bottom.
Rocks in water and along shoreline. Very significant tide — check schedules. Tidal currents in the bay. Very cold water — serious hypothermia risk. Relatively remote from rescue services.
