La Mercy is the ocean beach spot adjacent to La Mercy Lagoon, north of Durban. This beach offers open-sea kite conditions with waves and warm tropical waters (22-26°C). The spot combines access to the lagoon (flat water) and ocean (waves), offering varied options for different skill levels and conditions.
The spot works in NE to SE winds. Sandy beach with regular waves. Option to ride in the lagoon for warm-up then go to sea. Tide influences both beach and lagoon conditions.
Warm tropical water (22-26°C). Sandy bottom. Regular waves of 0.5 to 1.5 m. Moderate coastal currents. Good conditions for wave riding.

Access from the N2 or the coastal road. Beachside parking. Same area as La Mercy Lagoon. Some amenities nearby.
Shore break in large swell. Coastal currents and currents at the lagoon mouth. Sharks occasionally present. Jellyfish in summer. Solo sailing not recommended.
The dominant wind is the NE (summer trade wind), blowing side-onshore on this east-facing coast. Reliable thermal wind in the afternoon (15-25 knots). Same wind conditions as the lagoon but with ocean swell. Year-round, best October to April.
