Fort Stevens Oceanside is a kitesurfing spot on the ocean side of Fort Stevens State Park, at Oregon's extreme northwest. This park section offers direct access to the vast Pacific beach. The spot is located between the North Side and Area A zones, on one of Oregon's widest and wildest beaches. The proximity of the Columbia River mouth to the north influences currents and conditions. Northwest winds are powerful and regular in summer.
Cold water year-round (10-14°C), 4/3 wetsuit minimum in summer, 5/3 in winter. Powerful waves of 1 to 3 meters with Pacific swell. Sandy bottom with changing breaking zones. Frequent rip currents, reinforced by the Columbia River mouth influence. Conditions are very dynamic, changing with tide and swell direction.

Open all year round
Columbia Bar influence ("Graveyard of the Pacific"): powerful and unpredictable currents. Very dangerous sneaker waves. Violent rip currents. Massive driftwood on the beach. Very cold water risking rapid hypothermia. Frequent coastal fog reducing visibility. Heavy maritime traffic on the horizon (cargo ships). Isolated beach with distant rescue services. Never ride alone.
