Fuseta is considered by many as the best kitesurf spot in the Algarve, less crowded than the Ria de Alvor. Located 30 minutes from Faro within the Ria Formosa Natural Park, it offers a unique dual setup.
Lagoon side: low, calm waters extending in front of the charming village of Fuseta. Works at high tide only — the water retreats almost completely at low tide. Flat, warm, shallow — perfect for all levels.
Ocean side: cross the sand barrier island to reach the open Atlantic. Surprisingly flat conditions on the ocean side too, with the Nortada blowing offshore. Good for freeride and speed.
The best wind direction is SW (side-onshore in the lagoon) with consistent thermal conditions in summer. Also works well with NW Nortada. The joy of Fuseta is kiting in just a lycra during summer — water temperature reaches 24°C.
Small fishing village atmosphere with restaurants, a rescue service on the water, and nearby hotels. 5 minutes walk from town to the spot.
Best season: May to September.
Open all year round
Beginner
Tide dependent: lagoon side only works at high tide. At low tide, water retreats almost completely. Check tide tables!
Boats: water taxis and fishing boats cross the channel. Stay clear.
Sea urchins: occasional on rocky patches. Water shoes recommended.
