Johnson Branch is a kitesurf spot located on the shores of Lake Ray Roberts, a large 12,000-acre reservoir in Denton County, north of Dallas. Johnson Branch Park provides direct lake access with expansive grassy areas for launching and landing kites. Lake Ray Roberts is one of the windiest lakes in North Texas, benefiting from consistent southerly winds in spring and summer. The DFW kite community is very active on this body of water.

Freshwater lake with good fetch in multiple directions. The lake can get choppy with short wind chop in strong winds. Water is generally murky with limited visibility. Variable depth with shallow areas near the shoreline. Watch for submerged tree stumps and underwater structures in some areas.
Submerged tree stumps and debris in some areas of the lake. Severe thunderstorms possible in spring and summer with lightning, hail, and strong winds. Motorboat and jet ski traffic frequent on weekends. Lake levels can fluctuate significantly depending on rainfall, exposing normally submerged obstacles.
