Monitor-Merrimac Overlook Park is a kitesurfing spot on the James River, near Newport News. This historic park, named after the famous Civil War naval battle, offers access to the wide James River with good fetch. The river is wide and tidal at this point, offering flat water to chop conditions. The spot is well exposed and offers views of the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge-Tunnel. Popular with riders from the Newport News and Hampton peninsula.
