Purdy / Hendersons Bay is a kitesurfing spot in a sheltered bay in south Puget Sound, on the Kitsap Peninsula. Henderson Bay offers a relatively protected body of water with calmer conditions than open Puget Sound. The spot works with south to southwest winds that channel into the bay. Quiet residential setting with access from the village of Purdy.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Sheltered riding in Henderson Bay with cold saltwater (8-14°C/46-57°F). A 4/3 to 5/3mm wetsuit is recommended. Calmer conditions than open Puget Sound — flat water to light chop. Tides influence depth and currents in the bay. Muddy to sandy bottom.
Cold water — hypothermia risk without proper wetsuit. Low tide exposes mud flats and significantly reduces the rideable area. Tidal currents at the bay entrance. Recreational boat traffic in summer. Muddy bottom can be difficult to walk on.
