Soundside Ocracoke is the Pamlico Sound side spot of Ocracoke Island. The spot offers classic Pamlico Sound conditions — flat and ultra-shallow water — on a preserved and isolated island. It's the ideal place for beginners and freestyle on Ocracoke. Access is from NC Highway 12 which runs north-south through the island. The setting is wild and beautiful, with views across Pamlico Sound as far as the eye can see. Water is warm and bottom is sandy.

Beginner
Perfect flat water on Pamlico Sound. Very shallow depth — you can stand for hundreds of meters. Sandy bottom with seagrass. Water is warm in summer (78-86°F). Ideal conditions for learning and freestyle. The body of water is immense and it's never crowded on Ocracoke.
Stingrays — do the stingray shuffle. Sea nettles (jellyfish) in summer. Oyster shells possible — water shoes recommended. Remote island — limited medical rescue (no hospital). Afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer — exit water immediately. In strong NE wind, sound water level can drop significantly.
