Real is a soundside spot in the village of Waves on Hatteras Island, on Pamlico Sound. It's a local sound access popular with resident and visiting kitesurfers. The spot offers classic Pamlico Sound conditions: flat and shallow water on an immense body of water. The launch area is a bit more wild than the commercial spots at Waves Village, offering more tranquility. Good spot for freeride and freestyle with generous riding space.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Flat water on Pamlico Sound — excellent conditions for freeride and freestyle. Shallow depth over a long distance. Sandy bottom with some seagrass and oyster patches. In thermal SW wind, the water is perfectly flat. The spot can be more exposed to chop in strong NE wind.
Stingrays present — do the stingray shuffle. Sea nettles (jellyfish) in summer. Sharp oyster shells — water shoes recommended. Violent afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer with lightning. In strong NE wind, water level can drop significantly.
