Oceanside Ocracoke is the Atlantic-facing spot of Ocracoke Island. This preserved island, accessible only by ferry, offers miles of wild, pristine beach within Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The beach is completely natural — no houses, no development — just ocean, sand and dunes. Wave conditions are excellent with NE to SE swells. It's one of the most isolated and preserved spots on the entire US East Coast. Unique wave kiting experience in a spectacular setting.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Atlantic ocean waves. Variable shore break depending on swell. Sandy bottom with shifting sandbars. Best conditions in NE to SE side-shore winds. Extremely wild and isolated beach — you may be the only rider for miles. Waves are often better quality than Hatteras as the beach is less crowded.
Very isolated beach — limited rescue on the island, no hospital (evacuation by ferry or helicopter). Rip currents possible. Shore break can be powerful. Stingrays. Jellyfish in summer. Sharks possible. Always ride with a buddy. Limited cell coverage. Afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer.
