Fort Stevens Area A is a kitesurfing zone in Fort Stevens State Park, at Oregon's extreme northwest. This park section offers a vast ocean beach exposed to North Pacific swells. Area A is slightly south of the North Side, providing more distance from the dangerous Columbia Bar. The beach is wide and wild, bordered by dunes and coastal forests.

Cold water year-round (10-14°C), 4/3 wetsuit minimum in summer, 5/3 in winter. Powerful waves of 1 to 2.5 meters with Pacific swell. Sandy bottom with changing breaking zones. Frequent rip currents. Currents related to the Columbia mouth are still noticeable, though less powerful than at the North Side.
Residual influence from the Columbia Bar ("Graveyard of the Pacific"): powerful currents. Very dangerous sneaker waves. Frequent and violent rip currents. Massive driftwood. Very cold water risking rapid hypothermia. Frequent coastal fog. Isolated beach with distant rescue services. Never ride alone.
